Shanti Hastkala - Winter 2005 : |
Shanti Mandir's pledge to the various Charitable Projects currently under its protection continues to deepen. The Shanti Hastkala project recently received some special attention from a group of Westerners who were visiting and traveling in India in February. |
While staying at the Shanti Mandir Ashram in Magod, a few people from Australia and the US witnessed the project first hand during a visit to one of the nearby villages. The experience, though brief, pulled directly on their heartstrings, stirring their longing to help and their imaginations as to how they might. |
The group joined hastkala team on their way to the nearby villages to deliver a quantity of special soap which had been received in donation from donors in New York . Chideshwari Luthra, the visionary behind the Handicrafts project, was also with them for the excursion. |
One of the visiting Westerners felt inspired and began to speak about what else could be done, and how the program could be expanded. The discussion focused on the kind of supplies and tools that were needed, things that could help make the project grow more quickly. All of the suggestions required additional funding.
It was noticed the villagers could not do their work efficiently, as they did not even have basic and essential items. |
| |
Items like stoves, lamps, gas cylinder, fuel, sewing machine etc were required
It was a fruitful trip indeed and it resulted in on the spot pledges and donations enough to procure three sewing machines , a new stove for the village and a gas cylinder. This was the begining of making handicrafts at Village Magod. |
